Nominet .uk System Outage – Sunday 25 April 2010

On Sunday 25 April 2010 at 07:00 (BST) Nominet will be performing a major upgrade to their database software. The upgrade will cause their registration systems to be unavailable from 07:00 until 13:00 (BST).

During this time Online Services including web domain manager and PRSS, EPP, and ENUM registration systems will be unavailable. The automaton will not process email requests, but they will be received and queued for processing when it restarts. All of their registration systems will restart simultaneously at 13:00, at which point EPP requests will be accepted and the automaton will start to process queued requests – it is therefore possible that an EPP request may be processed sooner than an earlier automaton request for the same domain name.

WHOIS and DAC services will be moved to Nominets backup data centre so will continue to operate as normal. This upgrade is to their database software only and no functionality changes will be made to their systems during this maintenance outage.

Nominet .uk System outage – 8 November 2009

At 07:30 am on Sunday 8 November 2009 Nominet will have a systems outage lasting until 12:30 pm.

During this period Nominet will be deploying a major software upgrade and Online Services and EPP will be unavailable. The Automaton will not process email requests, but they will be received and queued for processing when it restarts.

All other Nominet systems will continue to work as normal during this period.

The software upgrade includes important changes to how their data systems handle nameserver objects.

Essential Upgrade Work – Glasgow DC, Sunday 26th April 2009, 00:00 to 06:00

Please note that as part of our continued commitment to providing a first class hosting environment for our customers, we will be carrying out a planned upgrade of our power infrastructure and associated systems at our Glasgow Data Centre. This upgrade is primarily to improve our environment and power facilities in advance of future expansion.

Our Systems teams have carried out significant and detailed planning to ensure the upgrade goes smoothly. As part of that process we will be carrying out a controlled power down of sections of our data centre which will cause periods of downtime for some services.

Affected services will be: – Iomartmail Email Services (Professional Mail, Microsoft Exchange) – Shared Web Hosting (Pic n Mix, Starter, Starter Plus, Business etc.) – Virtual Servers (All types) – Dedicated Servers (All types)

As we will be powering down different sections at different times, not all services will be affected at the same time. We will be working to restore full power functionality to all services as quickly as possible, if this can be completed before the planned completion time we will of course do so.

Easynic Nameserver Changes

Notice to Easynic Resellers

As part of our continual efforts to improve the services we offer to our customers, we are consolidating the nameservers used to serve DNS for domains registered through Easynic.

As part of this, we will no longer be using ns1.easypost.com, ns3.easypost.com, ns4.easyspace.com or ns5.easyspace.com. All new domain registrations and transfers where there are no custom nameservers specified in the Easynic account configuration will use the following nameservers:

  • ns1.namecity.com
  • ns2.namecity.com

These changes will take effect from Monday 26th January 2009 for new registrations. We will then be migrating domains from the legacy nameservers to the new system over the following weeks however we do not anticipate any impact on existing services.

The .CN Registry (CNNIC) has advised they will be performing an extended maintenance window starting on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 01:00 – 15:00 UTC. Please note that this is a 14 hour extended maintenance and not the standard 4 hour maintenance that CNNIC performs.
